From The President - Summer 2008

Dear Neighbors:

Wow…I can’t believe almost another year has flown by. In no time the students will be back and life will be, as most of us know it, back to ‘normal.’ Lots of nice things have been happening in our neighborhood over the past year. I continue to see new, double insulated windows being installed on many houses in Suburban Heights, several new in-ground sprinkler systems, several homes that have had entire lawns re-landscaped, requiring less irrigation than before, and other changes which indicate substantial investment in our neighborhood. I’m certain as gas continues to escalate, and it will, our neighborhood will continue to enjoy increasing property values because of our location and the continuous re-investment in our homes.

Our web site is up and operational (www.suburbanheights.blogspot.com), we have a fairly extensive list of “Neighbors in Business” several with links to their websites. We have had very good and consistent representation from the Gainesville Police Department at each of our quarterly meetings. Our fine city manager, working from recommendations of affected neighbors, GPD, and city traffic experts made a slight change at the somewhat dysfunctional intersection of 19th Place, 19th Ave. and NW 46th Terrace. Please know this is your city officials being responsive to your concerns.

We’re continuing the discussion on possibly offering the OPTION of paying Association dues, etc. by utilizing PayPal. We think such an option will make things easier for you AND for your Board.

Finally, as many of you know, the yearly picnic was a GREAT success for all. GPD’s traffic unit brought a motorcycle that the children loved as well as a canine which was also a big hit. District Commander, Captain Ed Book attended as did several others zone officers. The food was good; the company wonderful. Thanks to all those who put this on year in and year out….they know how to do it.

If you have any suggestions, ideas or concerns, please email me or let your area representative know and we’ll do what we can, if we can.

In Your Service,

Tony Domenech

From the President - Spring 2008 Newsletter

Dear Neighbor:

Some great things are happening in Suburban Heights. As you know and as I’ve mentioned in the past, several houses are doing major upgrades. In fact, one is almost doubling its size. Like you, I’ve also noticed persistent new roofs being installed on our neighbors’ homes as well as the installation of new double insulated windows. These upgrades serve notice to all of us that our neighborhood is alive and under constant improvement.

We also now have a web site (www.suburbanheights.blogspot.com) and it’s free! The site is in its infancy but we think we will find it very useful for improving communication between other agencies (GPD, etc.) and our neighborhood as well as communication among neighbors. We have also begun a “Neighbors in Business” section which offers free listings and contact information for all our “neighbors in business.” If you own your own business, please let me know (Tdomenech@aol.com) and I’ll see to it that you are listed. Please provide contact information which should include web site (if you have one) and phone number.

Additionally, we are contemplating utilizing PayPal to allow you to pay your dues or any other contributions you wish to make to your Association. Cost are minimal (1.9% to 2.9% + $0.30 USD) thus for a $10.00 association fee we would add less than $1.00. While I am not positive about that (I did copy the fee schedule from PayPal), I’m certain the additional charge would be minimal. For instance, your total dues payment might be $11.00 instead of $10.00. It surely would make things much more efficient. I use PayPal all the time. If this is something you think we should look into, let your rep or me know.

The Web site will also allow us to publish our newsletter online with color pictures! Moreover, you may opt out of a hardcopy version of the newsletter and save your Association printing costs. I, for one, will opt out of a hardcopy version.

Finally, we will also offer, online, a list of baby sitters as well as a list of handypersons in our neighborhood who wish to be listed. If you have additional ideas on utilizing the site, let me know.

Don’t forget the picnic! Sunday, April 27th.

Your servant,

Tony Domenech
